Our Story
Kolkata Bookshelf was born from a simple love for books and the joy of discovering stories. Opened in 2015 on Biplabi Barin Ghosh Sarani in Bagmari, we set out to create more than just a bookstore — we wanted a sanctuary where readers could lose themselves in pages, find unexpected treasures, and feel at home among the shelves.
Our collection is carefully curated, not mass-stocked. We focus on quality fiction, thoughtful non-fiction, contemporary Bengali literature, poetry, philosophy, and books you won't find in airport shops. From contemporary Indian authors to global voices, from graphic novels to academic texts — every title on our shelves has been chosen with intention.
We believe a bookstore should be a third place — not home, not work, but a space where you can breathe, browse, and belong. Our reading corner welcomes you to sit with a book before you buy, or simply to pause in the middle of a busy day. Coffee is always welcome, conversations about books even more so.
